Firefly productions series is the first show originating from the Balkans to be added to Mediawan Rights’ catalogue.

Mediawan Rights mounts East European push, picks up Constantine’s Crossing. Produced by Telekom Serbia and Firefly Production for Telekom Serbia, the 10×52’ drama is set during World War II and centres on the search for Christian artefacts with magical powers. Constantine’s Crossing is the first show originating from the Balkans to be added to Mediawan Rights’ catalogue.

DEADLINE ON FIREFLY STUDIOS

In October, the long-awaited Firefly Studios opened its doors to the industry with much fanfare. The complex, which sits in the town of Pancevo, just 11 miles east of Belgrade (and a 25-minute drive from the capital’s airport) comprises three state-of-the-art sound stages with more than a 50,000 square foot capacity, a water tank, 10 acres of backlot production offices, workshops, a restaurant and horse stables. Two soundstages sit at 21,500 square feet while a third sits at 8,600 square feet.

DEADLINE ON HOW BALKAN TELECOMS ARE BOOSTING LOCAL PRODUCTION IN THE REGION

Firefly’s Ivana Miković, Serbian producer of The Fall, Clan 2 and Clan 3, says that Telecom Serbia has been the main driver behind this big push for drama series production in the country in the last three to five years. “They’re the initiators of the big volume of productions being filmed in Serbia,” she says. “It’s been really great because they have boosted the industry and given us the opportunity to raise the production standards, give better titles and employ more writers and more directors. The industry has just bloomed since their entry to the market.”
